Dear Marla, (the other) Mrs. Kazan, David, Daniel and your entire family,
I want to tell you how special I thought it was that Jonathan reached out to his friends from Hillel during his illness.
Those years at Hillel were special for all of us. We have Rabbi Kazan among others to thank for that. That was a formative period in our lives and our friendships were truly special.
Jonathan, as an adult, was wise to recognize that special bond, reunited us, and invited us back into his life.
Jonathan had a good soul and a good heart.
Life almost always takes childhood friends on different paths as adults. When we are lucky, we all find our own ways and create meaningful lives and maybe even leave the world a slightly better place. I have no doubt he did that.
But what a unique treat to reconnect like this and to be able to be there a bit for Jonathan.
I am so very grateful to have had Jonathan in my life many years ago and also in his final months and days.
He was a special man.
Although freed from his suffering, I know he leaves a tremendous void for you and all those he touched.
May his memory be a blessing to you and all those who knew and loved him.
May he rest in peace.
Love
Joel

Marla and family,
I watched the service online. This was an extremely beautiful service. Jonathan sounds like a wonderful husband, dad, son, grandpa, uncle, and friend to all. He will be missed but be in your hearts forever. There is a star in the sky and he will always be watching you.

My heartfelt condolences to Marla and the family. I’m so sorry that he was taken far too soon. Marla, I am so shocked as I did not know of his condition. God bless your entire extended family.

My memories of Jon are all very fond. He was so incredibly up beat …all the time. His humor and smile were witty, warm and contageous. I could go on about our adventures like kidnapping Eric Shonman, etc.. but suffice it to say that Jon was clearly a special person who touched me and so many others. Even though we did not keep in touch after we left fraternity life at UIUC I still felt a kinship to him and the fond memories I hold. May God bless Jon and keep him and his family close.
